Paedophile Police Officer: Questions

Andrew Rowe, a former police officer with Staffordshire Constabulary, was convicted of offences including inciting sexual activity with a child and sexual activity with a child in court today.

The family of the abused girl have said in a statement:

“As an officer within the child abuse investigation unit, we regarded Andrew Rowe with the highest level of trust possible – a trust which he went on to completely abuse.

They go on to heap much-deserved praise on the police:

“We would now urge anybody who finds themselves in a similar situation to report the matter immediately, as we have received the highest level of help and support possible.”

Like all bent coppers, Mr Rowe resigned before he was fired and can look forward to a gold-plated pension.
This case raises a few questions and reminds us of some facts:

  1. Mr Rowe was a member of the force’s Child Protection division and it has been reported he initially met the teenager through his work. What was the nature of the meeting?
  2. Did Mr Rowe use the PNC to further his predatory paedophilic interest in the girl or other girls?
  3. Has there been a fishing expedition into similiar offences in all the cases Mr Rowe has been involved with
  4. The paedophile is not only a bogey man who snatches children from parks; they are often—and is most likely to be—family members and highly paid professionals who abuse their positions of trust.
  5. Further consolidation of child protection information–particuarly with the Children’s Index and the eCaf–is likely to make children more vulnerable to predatory paedophiles.
