There wimz3tbcxs seem to be problems with Grampian Police and its officers. In March 2005, Police Sergaent Ewan McHardy was stopped by police for erratic driving. Suspecting him of drink driving, he was given and failed a breath test at the roadside. He was then taken to the police station for further tests to confirm the offence. Being a police man he knew all the tricks of the system. He insisted he had a cold so a breath test could not be performed. Therefore a doctor was summonsed (sometimes, at this point, the police give up and let the suspect go but not Grampian), however when the doctor arived, a blood test could not be taken as McHardy had a fear of needles (!). Therefore a urine sample was taken. As is procedure, he was given a sample and another sample was sent to a police laboratory.
On the 13th August 2009, he was convicted of perverting the course of justice: he had diluted the sample and sent it to different testing laboratory.
At the trial it emerged McHardy had said when stopped:
“He said he was Ewan McHardy from Grampian Police and this wouldn’t be necessary.” [source]
Whilst it is a concern that such a corrupt individual could work for the police, the actions of his colleagues who impartially pursued the law is to be applauded.
One colleague, however, who doesn’t deserve applause is PC Richard Taylor. He got drunk and called an Asian gentleman a “black bastard”. He was convicted on 22nd August 2009 for his racial abuse and fined £500.
Grampian Police are investigating both individuals. Richard Taylor will doubtlessly lose his job whilst McHardy will doubtlessly retire on a nice pension–fattened by 4 years of suspension on full pay–prior to his disciplinary.
